unconventionalcourtship's very many prompts. Very AU and OOC, but I am silly because I had time to kill. Also incomplete but may be finished in future. Technically Kouta/Micchy but not anywhere right now.
Kouta slung his briefcase down by the door of his apartment automatically, his routine so well-ingrained that he barely noticed setting it down. His boss had totally, unexpectedly proposed marriage to him - a marriage that wouldn't have been legal in their native Japan, but in San Francisco was perfectly allowed.
He knew he was lucky to have such a desirable job. He himself had come from a humble background, and it still amazed him that he'd ended up as Kureshima Mitsuzane's personal assistant, coming with him to the United States. He had to admit that he'd been reluctant to say no to the man's proposal, but he had. He didn't have any desire to marry into a rich family, with all their politics. Plus, once he returned back to Japan, he wanted to marry his friend Mai. They'd started dating before he had left, and while his boss was attractive, and Kouta had been attracted to guys before, he knew something of how well things would go down, which wasn't very well.
He knew that his boss had an arranged marriage waiting for him at home, and he didn't care much for his prospective bride, but still, why ask a man and risk his inheritance?
His boss had to have a plan that he couldn't understand. After all, Kureshima was a certified genius, and Kouta was not. Bright, yes, but not as his boss' level. He was sure that this whole thing was part of a plan and his boss didn't really want to marry him.
Kouta put rice and water in the rice cooker absentmindedly, wondering if his boss had expected him to say no. Probably did, though it was sometimes hard to tell. If anything, Kureshima had almost glared at him after he'd turned the man down.
