Needless to say? Spoilers. I got a softsub off of HenshinJustice.
I’m not sure what to make of the new series. Eiji doesn’t bother me as much as Tsukasa of Decade did, but for someone vaguely reminiscent of Ryoutarou of Den-O, he bugs me. (Incidentally, it also bugged me of who he reminded me of until I realized he looks much like Kotarou from Blade around his eyes/face.) There’s Ryoutarou’s “not smart” and then there’s downright lazy/stupid, which is how he comes across to me. He’s very relaxed, very carefree, and very heroic. The heroic is nice; the other parts, coupled with teh stupid (though there are reasons behind the stupid) means that Eiji doesn’t inspire me like Shotarou and Philip, Wataru, Ryoutarou, Kagami, or any of the Blade cast did, fic-wise.
Ankh. Well, hello Mr. Manipulative Hand! This is the reason that I’m not totally writing Eiji off; Ankh is obviously manipulative, and if a demon hand says you impress him, and you’re of a heroic bent, you’re probably going to believe him. Honestly, I think Ankh hovers between manipulative as hell and a tiny part which will make him soften up during the series – after all, Eiji attacks the MotW in Ankh’s defense. (Though it is amusing to see the Grasshopper Yummy say “Is he that stupid?” and Ankh saying “It’s just as you can see”. Heck, Grasshopper outright says that if Eiji takes up the belt, Ankh is going to use him, and Eiji dismisses it. Ankh is also creepy as hell when he possesses the detective’s body.
The detective’s little sister is the one that’s really really strong and lifts the vending machine. In the opening credits, she’s chasing Ankh in his borrowed body, and in one shot, she’s practically burrowed her face into his back. Ankh looks… rather disturbed. (Ankh’s opening credit clothes are also a bit odd; he’s wearing a half-vest where his right sleeve cuts off and his left is full-length, no doubt to emphasize the demon hand aspect. And it looks like Eiji’s got some odd clothes too, as it took several checks through the credits to see he’s really fond of pants that billow at the feet.)
Mr. Prophetic is very odd too, and he’s going to be a Kagami Riku type, I can tell. (Speaking of Kagamis, it looks like one of Eiji’s form changes will leave him with a very stag-beetle like head, reminiscent of Gatack’s.)
Also, Eiji’s henshin, as he notes himself, is a rather odd song. To me, it sounds like a radio jingle, which is appropriate for something that’s essentially human greed powered, but it’s one of the few henshins I really don’t like.
So… waiting for next week to see if this is a decent show, despite my desire to hit Eiji around the head with a +2 cluebat.
