Summary, episode 22

Okay, this one's going to be a bit more difficult as there was apparently some rather important bits of dialogue that I didn't understand. So, my summary's going to be a bit lacking, but it's such an important episode that I'm going to try anyway. Despite the lack of dialogue, it's still quite spoilery, because it covers the episode in detail.

Continuing from last episode, Tendou fights the Worms. The main Worm gets away, but Tendou destroys some of the henchworms.

Kageyma's Shadow squads take aim at the factory with their weapons. Just as they're going to start in on what they were planning to do, another trooper comes up to Kageyama and says something. Kageyama stops the attack.

Cut to Kagami in the hospital, with a brief overview of the events of last episode, mainly Makoto and his encounter with Gatack Zecter. He wakes up; he's in a hospital room with an IV attached. Misaki comes in, and they talk. She starts toweling his neck. Behind the curtain, Tadokoro is sitting in his wheelchair. They talk briefly about Makoto and about Worms (and the fact that Makoto is still likely a Worm?). Misaki says something that alarms Kagami.

Opening credits. They credit Gatack's host, which is kind of fun, given that the character in question isn't Gatack's host yet. Four of the five Riders are credited, as are Hiyori, Jiiya, Mishima, and Kagami's father (but no Daisuke, sorry). Some shots of Gatack are added.

Bistro La Salle. Jiiya decorates with tinsel. Hiyori is talking to Tendou. Either Hiyori's boss is still sick or Tendou's volunteered to cook, or both. Hiyori is dressed in a maid's/server's outfit, and is not happy.

Hiyori opens the door. Jiiya is flinging... rose petals? Some kind of flower petals, more likely. He precedes Tsurugi into the La Salle. Hiyori is still not enthused and now has a flower petal in her hair, which she sweeps off.

Tendou comes out and addresses Jiiya. Maybe something about the food. Tsurugi says it's all good and reaches for the dish that Tendou's holding, but Tendou holds it out of his reach. He gives the sample to Jiiya to try. Tendou's either figured out what Jiiya put in the meat last time or he otherwise has Jiiya's approval. It looks like he's been cutting something up.

Tsurugi gets a taste of the food and approves of it too. Tendou semi-ignores him and keeps talking to Jiiya.

Cut to Kageyama and Mishima. They talk. Mishima has his pills (that he needs to taste anything). Kageyama doesn't sound thrilled about his assignment, something that has to do with Sasword.

Back at the Bistro La Salle, Hiyori serves Tsurugi his food. She's stuck telling him about the food (it sounds like Tendou cooked it, but she is the one that has to tell him what she's serving him). He says something, and whatever he's saying, it causes Tendou to slightly lose his balance. In the middle of the celebration, Jiiya gives Hiyori a fork that belongs to the family, perhaps as payment. Apparently it's payment for the meal and renting the restaurant?

She puts it in the cash register as Kageyama comes in to the restaurant. Tendou gives him a short greeting, and Kageyama recognizes him by the pseudonym he used to get into ZECT. Tsurugi looks at one, then the other.

Kagami is in bed, looking at Makoto's telescope-thing. When Misaki arrives, he's trying to remove his IV. (Ow.) He and Misaki argue. I think what Kagami's talking about is the fact that he believes that Makoto is human and needs to be rescued. Tadokoro comes in. He stops the argument and talks to Kagami. It ends with "You're Kagami Arata." Kagami, heartened by Tadokoro's speech, answers happily, "Yes."

Cut back to the La Salle. Tendou asks Kageyama something, but Kageyama avoids him. He tells Tsurugi it's time to work. Tsurugi refuses, stating it's his birthday. Kageyama says something in protest. Jiiya, maybe wanting to prevent a situation, drags Kageyama to the other side of the room to talk to him.

Next we see Kageyama with a book and with a birthday hat on, attempting to sing. Tsurugi isn't overly enchanted by Kageyama's singing attempt. Kageyama isn't happy either, but he's trying his best to smile. It comes out rather fake. Kageyama, perhaps prompted by Jiiya, continues to attempt to sing. On the side, Tendou and Hiyori watch as Kageyama attempts to get through the ordeal without blowing up.

We cut to Kageyama back in his ZECT Trooper's uniform. He's barking orders to the Shadow troopers. Tsurugi shows up with Kageyama's party hat, disrupts the meeting, and proceeds to tell Kageyama that he'll defeat the Worms. Kageyama, rather annoyed at this point, bats the birthday hat away. What would have happened next is disrupted by someone driving in on a motorcycle, driving right between Kageyama and Tsurugi.

Kageyama isn't happy with the driver of the motorcycle, either, who drives the motorcycle over the gates. Kageyama barks an order. The driver is revealed to be Kagami, who is promptly knocked off the bike by the Worm that was imitating him.

He's yelling something. In the meantime, the Shadow troops rush in. Kageyama and Tsurugi both hen-shin and cast off, and the two Riders and the ZECT troops fight the Worms.

Kagami is back in the factory, where he finds Makoto. He's happy to see the boy still alive. They're attacked by a Worm, but manage to get away together. They run onto some kind of catwalk and discover a large room full of large eggs. The factory is a Worm breeding ground. While he and Makoto are discovering all this, one of the Worms comes in, and Kagami and Makoto are forced to back away.

The Worm continues to go after them as Kagami hears a familiar voice. Tendou comes in, quoting his grandmother, and henshins. He casts off, and fights the monster as Kagami and Makoto get away.

Cut to Kageyama doing a Rider Sting on about six Worms. More come to confront him. Tsurugi is also attacking Worms, taking out some more at a distance with his Rider Slash. Tsurugi is suddenly in pain and is forced to dehenshin. He changes back into ScorpioWorm.

Tendou is fighting one of the worms when ScorpioWorm stumbles in. There's a weird effect, as if each of them was seen through a strange lens.

Kagami is still trying to get Makoto safely out of there when he hears footsteps. The Worm that was mimicking him is mimicking him again. The impostor says something. "Bastard," Kagami hisses.

Tendou fights ScorpioWorm for a while.

Back to Kagami. His duplicate is still talking, and Kagami looks for a means to defend himself and Makoto. he spots two metal bars and scrambles to grab them. He faces his duplicate, who shimmers back to his Worm form. The Worm easily bats Kagami away and he drops the metal bars. As he struggles up, Makoto walks calmly up to him. Kagami says something, probably ordering him back, but Makoto ignores him and starts walking towards the Worm. He says something to Kagami.

Kagami seems to realize something, just as he's stabbed through the chest. Makoto has turned somewhat into a Worm; as Kagami watches, he assumes his true form.

ScorpioWorm continues fighting Tendou. However, he stops, still in pain. The monster that Tendou was fighting comes back, and Tendou Rider Kicks it. It's destroyed.

Back to Kagami, as he's stabbed several more times by Worm tentacles, by both the Makoto-Worm and the one that was mimicking Kagami. He collapses.

At another location, his father plays the cello.

There's a shot of Kagami's father saying something. Kagami is on the ground. He grasps Makoto's telescope-thing tighter.

More of Kagami's father playing the cello. He has a voiceover. Kagami loses the strength to hold the object and drops it. It rolls away. More Kagami's father talking. More cello music.

In the factory, a figure approaches. The figure is carrying the Gatack belt. More of Kagami's father talking over the cello music. The figure is doing something to Kagami (who seems to be either really unconscious or dead). The figure puts the belt on Kagami.

Kagami's father still continues to play the darn cello. A tear runs down Kagami's father's cheek.

Back at the factory, the belt lights up and a wave of light passes over Kagami's form. A closeup of one side of Kagami's face as his eyes open.

The impostor Kagami and Makoto, back in their human disguises, walk calmly through the factory. A hand puts Makoto's toy on a ledge. The figures stop and turn around.

Kagami limps in and says something scathing to the two figures. He then says something dramatic and raises his hand to the sky. Cut to the metal box with Gatack Zecter inside. Gatack Zecter's "eyes" glow, and it punches through the box and a wall. It flies to the factory and crashes in via a skylight. Kagami catches it easily, looks at it briefly, and attaches it to the belt. The Gatack armor forms around Kagami in dramatic fashion.

The two Worms reassume their natural shapes and attack Kagami. He fights both of them, both hand to hand and with the armor's guns. He drives both of them long enough to blow up his impostor with Gattack's weaponry, leaving the Makoto-Worm intact. The Makoto-worm forms an image of Makoto and speaks to Kagami, addressing him as "big brother". While Kagami is dealing with conflicting feelings, Tendou arrives. He says something to Kagami, perhaps along the lines of "go, I'll take care of this". Makoto-Worm continues to plead at Kagami, who is staring at Tendou.

Kagami addresses Tendou by name and says something to him. Makoto-Worm's Makoto image smiles. Tendou seems surprised that Kagami is the person in the armor. Kagami says something to Tendou, who lets him tackle the Makoto-Worm on his own. Kagami Casts Off, the voice intoning "Change Stag Beetle". The Makoto image ducks back into the Makoto-Worm as the armor flies off. Both the Makoto-Worm and Kagami clock up.

They fight for a little bit, and then Makoto's image reforms. He pleads at Kagami some more. Kagami yells and hits the ceiling, producing light. The Worm is bathed in refracted light, and we get a flashback to the last episode and Makoto talking about moonbows. Kagami retrieves Makoto's toy, holding it out to the Worm and walking towards him.

In the meantime, the Shadow troops have reformed outside the factory. A trooper jogs up to Kageyama and says something. Apparently in all the confusion, ZECT has been planting bombs in the nest area and around the factory.

Kagami continues to walk towards the Makoto-Worm. he gets close enough for the Worm to take advantage of whatever he's doing, just as their mutual Clock Up ends. Kagami is tossed away. He gets up as the Worm rushes towards him, and does a Rider Kick (his is a roundhouse, but it's up in the air unlike Tendou's). The Worm is knocked down.

Kageyama gives the order to detonate the bombs. The factory explodes. A fireball rushes down the corridor where Kagami, Makoto-Worm, and Tendou are. Makoto-Worm gets up and shields Kagami from the blast. The Worm is destroyed.

Back to Kagami's father still playing the cello. Mishima waits in the background. When Kagami's father finishes, Mishima says something about Gatack. Kagami's father puts the cello down and makes a speech.

Kagami, back at the factory, reaches down for Makoto's toy. He and Tendou talk as the flames flicker around them.

Someone in ZECT uniform drives up o a motorcycle. it has mandibles at the front.

Next episode:
Tsurugi and Tendou fence. Tadokoro, Mishima, and a Shadow Trooper outside an area labeled "Area X". Gatack on cycle. Tsurugi eating. Kagami at a ramen(?) stand; Tendou is there. Hiyori in a cemetery with English headstones. Kagami addressing a henshined Tendou. Kagami and Tendou fighting Worms.

Tadokoro watching gate close. Kagami fighting Worm as Gatack. Hiyori staring at Kagami in Gatack armor. Jiiya talking to Mishima. Kagami with chopsticks. Tsurugi in limo. Tendou at stand. Tadokoro. Jiiya watching something. Tendou and Tsurugi henshined and fighting. An aquarium. Hiyori.

Advertisement for God Speed Love. End.

Notes:
* On one of the copies I found, there was a pre-episode bumper with Gattack on it. Unfortunately, the quality was a bit poor.
* According to the TV-Asahi site, Mishima was the one in the factory putting the belt on the (dead? not dead?) Kagami.
