"It's okay, Uncle Taiga," Masao soothed his uncle. His Uncle was Worrying again, which was why Masao had gone to the doctor *again* and have more tests run so that Uncle Taiga could make him live longer.
He didn't really need to live longer, but Uncle Taiga just Worried sometimes and the rest of the family knew to humor him so Masao did too.
"But I was hoping this time that it would work," his Uncle said. "I want you to live a long, long time."
It wasn't important to Masao, but he didn't say anything because it would cause Uncle Taiga to Worry more. It wasn't a terrible thing to be mostly human, and Masao didn't even age as fast as most humans did, but Uncle Taiga was obsessed with slowing him down even further.
But then agan, Uncle Taiga was the Fangire King, and his father had said that Uncle Taiga had always wanted the best for them. And since he was Fangire, to him being Fangire was best.
"It's okay," he said simply. He smiled at his uncle, knowing Uncle Taiga would never understand, but he meant well. And if someday Uncle Taiga fixed his lifespan? He'd live with that too.
After all, life was too short to worry about such things.
