Remix Revival 2021~ (and other stuff)
Aug. 13th, 2021 09:12 pmRemix Revival (
remixrevival) is running again. I've signed up, of course. If you're curious/interested, you can read the rules/requirements and find a link to the signup here on this comm post, but I'll also explain somewhat briefly here:
What you need to sign up for the main exchange: 1 fandom with either 5 works of 100 words or more or 3 works of 100 words are more (there are a few restrictions on what works are counted: the work must be complete, not a remix, not a crossover, not designated as "safe", not a collaboration, and must be fic (if you're signing up to have fic remixed) or art (if you're signing up to have art remixed). You can choose up to 3 works, 1 series, 1 fandom, and 1 pseudonym to be "safe" - that is, that you don't want to have remixed. (See the rules regarding pseuds.)
Remix is unusual in that you are matched to a "recipient" but you're not writing for them; you're taking one fic that they've written that isn't one of their "safe" works/fandom/series/pseud and writing it like you would write it. You are not permitted to change the pairing (for example, if I have a fic where I've written Builder/Nora, you're not permitted to change it to Arlo/Nora), but you can background the relationship (for example, write a gen fic featuring the Builder and Nora).
For my signup, I chose to represent some of my bigger fandoms (mostly toku/ameritoku) along with one fandom that represents a general fandom interest. I didn't want to overwhelm the mod who has to check through all of these fandoms, so I limited what I put in. I chose Kamen Rider W to represent Kamen Rider, Gokaiger to represent Super Sentai, and Power Ranger R.P.M. to represent Power Rangers. I also chose Fatal Frame I to represent the Zero/Fatal Frame series, Final Fantasy II to represent my early Final Fantasy game fics, and Stardew Valley to represent such series as My Time at Portia, Slime Rancher, Fantasy Life, and Cozy Grove. I was also going to include Original Work, but I decided I would rather risk going to pinch hit than get someone who looks at my stuff in that category and decides they have to default. If I add one more fandom, it's likely to be either Earth: Final Conflict or Tomorrow People (1992). (ETA: I took pity on the mod and put in Original Work at the end as I only had one match.)
(On the off chance you're here because you have matched with me/are interested in matching with me: I've been writing fanfic since 1987 and have accumulated a ton of fic over the years, especially in toku/ameritoku. If you feel overwhelmed, which some of my exchange people have been, try the Original Work and anthropomorphic categories for stuff that might be interesting.)
Not related to Remix, I've been doing well with Duolingo Swedish! (Though I have problems with understanding spoken Swedish - that's something I have to work on. I might pick up a tutor when I have more money.) Also still seeing what installs and what doesn't in Linux, game-wise. I've also picked up a pinch hit for an exchange. Currently having fun trying to canon review for it, though I feel I'm fairly comfortable with character voices. Got a plot idea, just want to make sure I don't contradict any canon details.
Steam has the sequel to The Expression Amrilato, but I'm looking to pick it up from GOG. I'm currently considering whether to pick up Elder Scrolls Oblivion and the mod that Sir Terry Pratchett wrote dialogue for.
I have both the Android and iOS mobile versions of My Time at Portia. IOS is great apart from the fact that I'm trying to play it on a phone and the yellow text is sometimes hard to read. Android? I'm testing it on a tablet that's technically below spec and it has visual issues - might root said tablet and install a slightly newer version of Android and see if that fixes said issues. Fishing is a bit annoying because the bubble is white on white instead of red on white, but I'm getting used to it.
Speaking of My Time at Portia, I'm currently doing a self-imposed pair of mini-challenges on PC: Befriending people in alphabetical order and randomly choosing your skills (Tumblr link).
