Password cracking

Did I mention I had an interest in information security? I have an interest in information security.

So, to distract myself from rl stuff, here's a screenshot of a program called "John the Ripper". I gave a secondary account of mine a 12-character uppercase-and-lowercase password phrase, pulled it out of /etc/shadow, and am letting it run. According to Kim Kommando's site on how long it would take to crack, a 12-character uppercase-and-lowercase password should take about 300 years. The program is hoping for... well, apparently 11 days using the password list! But my password hopefully isn't on that list so it might have to move onto just random bruteforcing. We'll see how it goes, or if my laptop will decide to have Issues and shut down/crash before the program can crack my password.
